Longfellow Students Become YardScaping Experts

After a month long research project, Longfellow 5th graders are ready to present what they learned through online and reference resources, field testing, comparing equipment, planting, and other yard care experiments. They practiced their presentations outside to prepare for their YardScaping open house on Friday, May 31 at 1:00 PM.

The students studied:

  • Watersheds

  • Rain Gardens

  • Groundcovers

  • Yard Waste

  • Healthy Soils

  • Soil Erosion

  • Aerating

  • Topdressing

  • Overseeding

  • Mowing

  • Lawncare Products

  • Watering Wisely

This amazing unit is funded by the City of Portland through the Greener Neighborhoods Cleaner Streams program and taught by the Cumberland County Soil & Water Conservation District.
