YardScaping with Longfellow Students
Every Wednesday and Friday in May, the Cumberland County Soil & Water Conservation District worked with Longfellow 5th graders to research yard care practices to help build healthy soil and protect water quality. The students divided their time between testing out their knowledge in the school courtyard lawn and rain garden testing sites and developing their research skills through a variety of questions and credible sources.
The students worked in small groups to study the following topics:
Watersheds

Soil Erosion
Healthy Soil
Pest Control
Fertilizer
Aerating
Topdressing
