The trout eggs have arrived!
Portland students have been waiting for this day for weeks. The brook trout eggs from the Casco Fish Hatchery were delivered to classrooms at Lyman Moore Middle, King Middle, Lincoln Middle, and Deering High School. Each bottle has 300 eggs and for the next 3 months, classes will raise them until they become juveniles. As they care for the brook trout, the students will learn about maintaining healthy water and aquatic ecosystems. In May, they will go to a local river to release their trout.
This amazing unit is funded by the City of Portland through the Greener Neighborhoods Cleaner Streams program.
Thank you to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife for providing the brook trout eggs to our classrooms!
