Longfellow 5th Graders Follow the Flow

The Longfellow Elementary School 5th graders followed the flow of stormwater runoff from their school to Capisic Pond on a walking field trip with Cumberland County Soil & Water Conservation District to learn about stormwater infrastructure, common stormwater pollutants, different types of pervious and impervious surfaces, and to identify aquatic macroinvertebrates living in Capisic Brook. The students also got to meet one of the City of Portland’s Stormwater Program Coordinators, Doug Roncarati, to learn more about how stormwater impacts the Capisic Brook watershed and the City’s stormwater infrastructure.

This amazing unit is funded by the City of Portland through the Greener Neighborhoods Cleaner Streams program and taught by the Cumberland County Soil & Water Conservation District.
