3rd Graders Make a Stormwater Stew

The 3rd grade classes at Amanda C. Rowe Elementary created a “stew” of water pollution to demonstrate how humans can impact our local watershed. As the students listened to a story about alewives traveling downstream, they added various pollutants to the water that accumulate and end up in Casco Bay. After creating the stew, we brainstormed solutions to keep our water sources clean.

This activity is funded by the City of Portland through the Greener Neighborhoods Cleaner Streams program and led by the Cumberland County Soil & Water Conservation District.
