Visit Capisic Brook
One of the most scenic streams in the Portland area to relax, unwind, and see some beautiful wildlife is Capisic Brook. You can visit Capisic Brook through Evergreen Woods, Rowe Elementary School, and Capisic Pond Park. Evergreen Woods has over four miles of trail systems that allow a multitude of activities including mountain biking, snowshoeing and is dog friendly! It truly has something for everyone! If you take the Evergreen Loop from either Woodvale Street or from the Evergreen Cemetery Duck Pond parking lot you can see Capisic Brook along this entire trail. Make sure to bring a nature guide as there is an abundance of wildflowers and unique bird sightings along your way!
For those eager to bring out their kiddos, the multi-use trail named “Flow’s Amazing Adventure” on the east end of Rowe Elementary School is a great path that is a short out and back trail that also provides a fun water-themed story walk to keep them engaged! With a bridge crossing, dogs being permitted, and multiple vantage points of Capisic Brook, this trail provides everyone with something to enjoy!
If you decide you want something a little closer to downtown and less intensive, Capisic Pond Park is the place for you! There are three entrances to the Park with the end of Macy Street being the preferred option with a small parking lot. You can also utilize the available street parking on Lucas Street and Machigonne Street. This park contains both the southernmost portion of Capisic Brook as well as Capisic Pond before it drains into the Fore River. The park provides plenty of opportunities to view the pond and to walk right beside the stream with plenty of turtles and ducks to be awed by!
